New Adventures :: Ashley DeYoung Photography :: Augusta GA portrait photographer

My guilty pleasure is watching the “Real Housewives of Atlanta”. I suppose I need to get a better feel for GA since I’m moving there. 🙂 So I’m catching up on the latest season.

It’s difficult moving 400 miles away after starting a business. I’m not sure what I’m going to do when I move down there next week. It will take a while to build up clientele. I’m trying out several different things to keep me busy.

There are a million things that I want to do. I’d like to dabble my hands in a little bit of everything. Yes, photography is my number one passion, but it’s not my only passion. I love all art. I love to cook and bake. I love to write.

So I think I’m going to spend the next year experimenting in all of these things and see where God leads me. I’m not giving up photography. Who could resist photographing little faces like this?

I’m going to continue pursuing photography, while also trying other things. And definitely blogging more.

In the mean time, I’m running around snapping pictures of everything I can find and selling the prints…here is a link to the gallery of the ones that I’ve shot recently…email me if you’d like to order.

Free time equals Pie Time!

The past two weeks I’ve had more free time than I know what to do with, since I’ve taken time off from my business to move and get married. I haven’t had this much time since I got sick with mono and stayed in bed all summer.

I never watch the television, but I’ve started watching it lately. Well mainly the Martha Stewart show and the Food Network.

I’ve become so annoyed by this whole idea of “dumbing down recipes” for busy moms. Or “semi-homemade recipes” for the mom on a budget. I think there has to be a happy medium. So I decided to bake today.

I wanted to bake a homemade crust for pumpkin and fudge pie instead of using the pre-made frozen kind.

PREMADE TOPPING=GROSS!

So I made my own. And also made a fudge pie! YuM!

Now I need to eat some. 🙂

It’s not that difficult to make and it’s rewarding in multiple ways.

Our shower at Arrington Vineyards!

I can’t remember what life felt like before the chaos of a wedding and moving kicked in.

My bridesmaids and I at our shower at Arrington Vineyards!

Here it is two weeks before I marry my best friend and everything is crazy!

I was told I was crazy for wanting to plan a wedding in 3 months, move 400 miles away and continue to run my business and work. I’m managing somehow.

There’s been a huge transition in my life. I’ve officially retired from being a nanny. This past Saturday was my last night. While I do love children, I don’t think I want to find another family in Georgia to nanny for. It’s time to move into photography full time. I made them a photobook of the pictures I took on the trip they took me on to Marco Island this past summer…photos are in video below.

I feel like I’m saying goodbye to everything. My job with the boys, my hometown, my church, my friends, good sweet tea, my home, my family…everything I’ve ever known.

My sweet Tennessee I will miss you (and great harvest’s pumpkin chocolate chip bread!)

My sweetheart and I at our shower at Arrington Vineyards!

I’m moving in one week and I cannot believe it. I’ve been waiting for a long time for this day to arrive and here it is just one week away. Bizarre. I’ve dreamed about my wedding day since I was a little girl and here it is two weeks away.

I’m really trying to sit back this week and enjoy the transition process. I want to enjoy my favorite things about Franklin. I don’t want to stress about moving or getting married. Life is too beautiful to be wasted by worrying.

I can’t wait to post pictures of my wedding. It will be weird to be on the other side of the camera! 🙂

And I’m definitely going to miss this little guy (and the big guy too.) My nephew, dad and I at our shower at Arrington Vineyards.

CHAOS!!! Ashley DeYoung Photography :: Augusta GA portrait photographer :: Nashville TN wedding photographer

Lawdy Mercy, I’m SO behind on everything! I’m trying to catch up on editing photos, uploading photos, emailing, burning DVDs, mailing prints, ordering products, traveling, planning my wedding, moving 400 miles away…WHEW! I’m a busy girl.

My life obviously has turned to chaos. I’m getting married in 4 weeks in Savannah, GA. I’m also moving a few days before I get married from Franklin TN to Augusta GA. I’m also shooting some more weddings & sessions on my free weekends, attending 4 showers for myself in different cities, and hand making my invitations. I’m insane.

Here is a sneak at my invitations. They are grey & ivory on pearlized paper. I designed the monogram & invitation, designed the labels, response cards, reception cards, picked out the paper, printed them, cut them, made the cushion, bows, brooches & glued them with help from my mom of course! 🙂

I’ve done some sessions recently, some of which I’m sad, because I can’t post the pics yet…those brides-to-be will have my head if I do! 🙂

Here are some sessions I’ve been doing…

Baby Callan in South Carolina:

I love working with this little guy. He’s gotten so big!

OK, I’m tired of uploading. More to come later!

The Other Side of the Camera :: Ashley DeYoung Photography :: Augusta GA portrait photographer

I’ve pretty much neglected my business for the past month. It’s hard to maintain with traveling and planning a wedding!!

We went to have our engagement photos taken in Savannah this past weekend. We had such a good time shooting them.

All photos are courtesy of the lovely Mackensey Alexander Photography.

I’m using this for my thank yous!

I LOVE this one. So fitting for a photographer! 🙂

I wanted to do the vintage theme in the engagement photos because our wedding is vintage themed!

It felt strange to be on the other side of the camera again! But now I know what people are feeling when I am shooting their engagement photos. 🙂

I’m currently in Augusta, GA and I’m heading back to Franklin, TN this afternoon. I’m home for 11 days, then I am hitting the road for a few photo shoots in GA & SC! I’m excited to start shooting again.

Summer trip almost over :: Ashley DeYoung Photography :: Augusta GA and Nashville TN portrait photographer

A little time at the beach…

I think this is my favorite image from the trip.
There’s a calm that is experienced by the ocean. It has the ability to bring peace to the soul, heal the heart and tame the wild. It’s quite an amazing experience to sit and watch a storm roll up on the beach.

I loved how he looks worn out from digging in the sand all day.

Watching the boats come in. Pure joy.

Swimming in jeans at the beach…

“Our memories of the ocean will linger on, long after our footprints in the sand are gone.”

Heading home Saturday…then things are going to get a little crazy!

Key West :: Ashley DeYoung PHotography :: Augusta GA wedding photographer Nashville TN portrait photographer

I’m sitting here on the balcony of this boutique hotel that I’m staying at…called the parrot key resort in Key West.

It’s actually quite nice and stunning here. The water is crystal clear!

I’m exhausted. It’s hard to sleep unless I’m in my bed. But, this hotel bed is mighty comfortable.

I am looking forward to being married and not living out of a suitcase. I never feel completely put together. I’m so scatterbrained when I pack for a trip, that I end up forgetting half of my things…or I never unpack from the last trip and just use the same stuff. I’m a mess.

It’s incredibly quiet and peaceful here. It’s amazing when you have a day completely filled with noise and chaos and then you find that moment of silence…it’s the most overwhelming calm I have felt in a long time. My heart feels rested.

It’s been a stressful few weeks for me and I’m sure more stress will come when I return home. I’m behind on photography work, wedding planning, packing for my big move and a million other things in life. I’ve got 2 months to have 3 showers…a wedding…a move…another shower.

But life is still beautiful…even more beautiful down here. I hope to capture some great photos…
